Hi,

As creator of this thread, I wasn't expecting to see so much debate and heated emotions as to if ANet is crap or why people don't like the game. I was only trying to get some feedback on how you guys view the future of GW and its upcoming chapters and also what would happen to it in the case GW2 comes out. I really love this game and I am just hoping that GW will be around for a long time, but I am worried about how it will be possible if the fan base isn't increased or if ANet would start on another project like GW2.

I personally agree with some of the others who have answered this thread and have stated that they enjoy the game. I really do think it has been the best game by far that I have purchased and I love to play it.

Up until this point I've not played or purchased any other MMOG so I cannot compare it to other similar games. What I do know is that I had never even heard of the game...only that there wouldn't be a monthly fee charged for playing. That was enough to get me to purchase this game and I am extremely happy I did. Yes it did cost me $50, but in my opinion it has been well worth my initial investment. I have 250hrs. of playtime and I still have a BIG long list of things I want to do with Chapter 1.

The game is not perfect but it still has provided me with a lot of fun. I would think that most of you here in the forums would feel the same way.

BTW. If I purchase I game I don't like or one that I don't think has any potential...I don't even bother to visit or post in their forums. So I am guessing even those who have stated they don't like the game, are still hooked or at least care about the game for some reason...otherwise you are just utterly wasting your time posting about something that has no meaning to you. If it was me I would just go buy another game and completely forget GW forever...(coming from an owner of dozens of crap games).

I take it you all have something to say because you do care about the game. So we are all in the same boat...hoping for a successful Chaper2 and long GW future!!!

WOW! Some of you guys want the moon on a stick! This is my first experince in MMOrpg games and i have to say i'm an addict! I once had a life and actually done some work at work! Now i post on this site during the day and play when i get home!

Some of your comments have really made me laugh! You hate the game so much that you take time to write crap in here? Do us all a favour and go quitely. You won't be missed =) Idiot savants by name and by nature... Why so much negativity? I LOVE this game! Yes it has flaws but why not post with helpful constructive comments? (love the idea of a gambling area!)

I've booked the 8th of sept of so i can have a full day & nights play in Grenths footprint & Sorrows Furnace! I dont know about US servers but if you stand in Pre-searing ascalon in Euro, you just watch how many new players spawn unguilded like little giddy baby dear as they enter the lands of Tyria

As for the 'grind' isn't that actually playing the game? What about PvP/collectors weapons? My hale air staff is 20% 20% +30hp +28hp and cost 5 griffth wings and a few salvages for the hp mods. Not gold but who cares? you dont get any better....

As for not enough PvP or PvE content? WTF>? I haven't finished UW or FOW entirely and i've only won HoH twice since mid June!

The futures bright for GW IMO, roll on the updates

Exactly why you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to PVP. The majority of PVPers would rather get cancer than play WoW. We're team/action/strategy gamers, an aspect Guild Wars DID have for a couple years before it was released. If you don't know about that it's because you are new to GW, another word for that is ignorant. Discussing something with someone who is ignorant isn't easy, so I'll stop at this point. Let's just say Anet crammed 2 games that do not fit into the same genre/playerbase together, and the results are destined to destroy one side or the other of that playerbase because of their bad decision to combine them.

Both 'massively' and RPG are argueable in this situation. At the very least, they are weak examples. This is really 2 games mashed into one and quite frankly, the PvP shines brighter.

Without the PvE, GW would be dead by now. Simple as that. The PvE is what keeps the game going. The PvP isn't nearly interesting enough to compete with Counterstrike or Battlefield2 on its own.
No, it would certainly not be dead. If the game lacked a PvE section there would be no unlocking system to speak of. All the effort put into the PvE missions would have gone into extra PvP modes. In fact, a change such as this could have possibly improved the well being of the game.

Numa stfu please. Were leaving this forum because of people like you. Gurus was once a respected, intelligent forum and now its turning into trash because of morons that dont know how to read.

I still play this game(barely) because I know the potential it has and because of my guild. Other than that I really dont have any incentive or other reason to play. We dont hate the game at all, we just dislike the direction it ended up going. We arent leaving because this forum isn't negative enough, we're leaving(and this doesnt apply to all of iQ afaik) because GWG has outlived its usefulness. Next time dont try and take our words out of context or you'll be made to look like a shithead even more.

P.S.-FYI Shinsei quit GW for a while.

you took my words ... i mean , is this a fan site ? wth ... this people hate the game , and dont have a life so keep posting here , the mods cant delete 90% of the posts , so this forum is mostly trash ... jesus crist ... sad to realize , i was enjoying some of it ...

my conclusion is , most of this people are wow players , and come here to flame the game , just like in mmorpg forums , kids with no life , and above all , no brains

my search for a new fan site starts now ...

jesus f***ing crist

( mods , open your eyes , and delete some people here )

i just realize the real fans are busy in trade forums ... massive posting there , they dont even lose time making questions like , is guildwars a good game , daaahhhhhhhh

ahhh , and no guilt to the mods , we have ignore function ... now i can go on topic ...

predictions :

this game will be famous for a very long time

comparisations : i sometimes play HL2DM and steam have a server list with all the games mixed up : guess what ... the old CS 1.6 as about 10 000 servers
all the new games ( condition zero , source code , HL2DM , HL2CTF , etc etc ) all together have about 5 000 ...

so ...

as long as not everyone in the world is rich to have new computer grafics , updated hardware ... new fresh game from the store ...

this game is so new , it is still a baby
You have a good point there about the WoW players maybe they are trying to ruin the game as well as wanting it harder.I belive that it would be best for all concerns if Anet had it own forums.

Good on them. Although they sound like they'd rather get cancer than play GW.

This is true. I bought the game one whole week after release, so I'm just a stinking n00b. I have no place making comments. Only beta players have say.
Then I like the game and that fact alone makes me a n00b anyway, so I'm a double n00b. Actually, as I mainly play PvE, I'm a TRIPLE n00b.
Right?

Thing is, you wanted a game you didn't get, you wanted Diablo3. And now, when you didn't get it, you're upset that you got 'cheated', and dream of the day GW will magically transform into Diablo3.

Which isn't going to happen.

Me, I got the game I got. I didn't expect diablo3, I didn't WANT diablo3, I wanted a decent cRPG - and I'm happy. Actually I'm ecstatic. GW is a great game, it's just a bit sad that so many are so blinded by what they thought GW would be, that they can't appreciate what it actually is.

However: like I said before, I wish ANet would completely separate PvE from PvP, enable UAS for PvP avatars, and a PvP-only ladder, which PvE avatars and items could not enter. Not so much because there's two incompatible games in GW, as that there's two incompatible crowds.

You know I've read that statement from other development compaines as well, Creative Assembly (Total War series), Trimuph Studios (Age of Wonders), and Matrixgames (strategy wargames). They also have said that the comments in forums are less than 2% of the grand population and that the "hardcore" type players represent even less of that percentage.

There are emails we never see, phone calls we never hear, 1000's upon 1000's of other people using other avenues to submit their likes and dislikes about a game besides mere forums.

This forum just like all is just really another insignificant few though it appears to be many, but, even so a few thousand and there's not that many that post that often even with that much of a population, we're just a very small percentage of the whole community. And no one can truthfully say that what we say represents the "majority" of anything about this game.

Hell Shadowbane is still active with 20,000 or less active players, so, it's very hardly likely GW's will fold anytime soon just because someone doesn't like it or it didn't meet their expectations or appear to be as descibed on the box. How you interpret something is not necessarily how it is meant btw.

Don't forget they have access to the data base, the player base, they know how many are playing and how many are leaving and how many more are joining, no one else here has a clue. They also have alllllllll that money they made off the sale of this one game. They made a fortune and if the game folded tomorrow they would still be well off.

So in a nutshell, don't worry be happy!

If you compare this game to say EQ for example. EQ has much more content to offer hands down considering it has over 5 years of expanision packs and a monthy price tag of now $15.00 (143.88 for 12 Months). So it's not surprising that at least some are turning to other games with more content. But like i've always said, I think GW's has great potential.

Except of course that game has a monthly subscription, so as long as the money of paying customers > cost of servers/connection/IT people it can go on forever.

You also can't compare it to a game like NWN, where people can play locally or put up their own servers.

You have to compare it to games that are not playable without a server and don't have a monthly fee...

It's two games, yes, but I disagree about the PvP shining more brightly; personally I'd fire up an fps if I wanted competitive PvP, but many people would agree with you, sure.

Yes, your post was constructive and civil, but I did have reservations about it, as I wrote. Like Saerden said, there's no need for PvE to be limited by PvP, or vice versa. The idea clearly is that unlocking stuff should make PvE valuable to the PvP'ers, and the WaW system should make PvP valuable to the PvE'ers, so that everyone does a little of both and appreciates both facets of the game - but it's not working. All it's achieving is annoying everyone. IMO.

I've actually got great respect for BlackAce knowledge. Just not for the attitude he and a few other have been sporting lately.

Yeah, if GW was a completely different game, then the PvP might stand on its own two feet. Clearly a _lot_ of work went in to the PvE, and had the same effort been directed to improving PvP, who knows what could have been achieved.

Sure, I'll drink to that.

Cut off competitive PvP from PvE + "amateur" PvP today, however, and I doubt the competitive PvP would survive.

People need to realise that this game is more centered on appeasing the middle man, not either of the extremes. Sure PvP could be better, sure I would like it to be better, sure I would like to have everything, sure I have realized this game wasn't made to meet MY needs.

In reality the only people who post things about how much the game could have been different, or how much better it could have done, are all those who did not like what turned out of the game. They are upset it isn't THEIR game.

Some would like more, and some only, PvP of this game.
- Upset because the game focuses on two zones and not one. They feel jipped, and lied to (honestly no box ever tells the truth, its all marketing).

I was upset at first, but I learned to love the game, heck it gave me a ratio of over 10 hours to the dollar.

Also look at the posts, you will not those who say the game will live shortly are mostly those who came from the PvP or RPS/FPS backrounds that in some way probably wanted CS: Fantasy. All those who say the game will live on are those who are intermidiates or new to the gaming world. In my opinion there are far more middle ground people than either extreme. Did Anet succeed in gaining a large backing? Yes.

Talking

"Different strokes for different folks"

I bought two copies of GW the day it came out for my youngest daughter's 18th birthday, so we could have another father/daughter thing to do together. And we were able to team up even when she was in Scotland for the summer. Got my $100 worth right there. Now her fiancee has a copy of the game as well.

Another daughter bought a copy for my grandson's 15th birthday, and they both play, plus she let my five year old grandson make a character and run around banging on stuff in pre-searing (naturally, she keeps him out of the "towns", where all of the juvenile crap is going on). An almost 13 year old granddaughter wants to play, but from the BS I've witnessed in the "towns", I've told her mom that I would not recommend it at this point.

All of the above is PVE. It's the first time since the older girl was a kid, and we all (two more kids) used to pencil and paper, that we have been able to get together and enjoy something like that.

When I go it alone I run with henchmen, and the only character that I have brought to level 20 is stuck in Elona Reach. Kind of discouraged about that after 20+ tries (yes, I've read all of the advice. Always hated timed missions. Maybe just a bad build, or more likely just old-age bogging down my neurons). That kind of leaves me out of the summer updates, or the expansion, at least until the rest of the family gets to that point and we can work some strategy.

GW works for me, and the rest of the crew seems happy with it. Sure, it could use some fine tuning. I'd like to see an offline, modable version released, but doubt if that will happen. Looking forward to Oblivion, and if I spend anywhere near the time with that as I spent on Morrowind, that will pretty well cut me off of playing GW solo.

Wow. And here I am thinking that people leave the forum because of posts like the one quoted above. And that Guild Wars Guru is turning into trash because of people who can't remain civil.

If you ask me, it's not the game that's going downhill; it's the game's community that has taken a turn for the worse.

On topic: I think Guild Wars has a good future ahead of it, but only as long as new content continues to come out. This can mean new PvE chapters, PvP events like PvPX, or maybe just skill changes every now and again.

For many people, including myself, PvE gets stale after the first, second, third times. The solution? New content. This can include new content within the original game.

For some people, PvP is boring or "unbalanced." The solution? Skill changes, and new content. I'm almost willing to bet that the same people who gripe about PvP's problems will be among the first to be playing whenever there is a significant skill change or new PvP content added.

I like the game. I've spent hundreds of hours on it, and that's as a "casual" player; the vast majority of that time was spent a few hours at a time on weeknights and more on weekends. And all for a one-time purchase fee. A great bargain, if you ask me.

What I don't like is the direction that the community is turning in. Where is the love??

Started following the game since it was announced, through both E3's, and through every beta, obtaining a preorder package or an access key through any means necissary. Left the game when A.Net changed the game completely and never fullfilled promises.
